About Us
The California Pan-Ethnic Health Network (CPEHN) works to ensure that all Californians have access to quality health care and can live healthy lives. As the country becomes increasingly diverse, CPEHN's multicultural perspective is more and more critical. We gather the strength of communities of color to build a united and powerful voice in health advocacy. Together, we're working to evolve health care from a one-size-fits-all approach to a system that works for people from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Our Mission
To improve access to health care and eliminate health disparities by advocating for public policies and sufficient resources to address the health needs of our communities.
Our History
In the early 1990s, in the uncertain atmosphere of the riots in Los Angeles and national and state health care reform efforts, ethnic health organizations in California saw the need to come together to form a strong multicultural health advocacy voice. Joining forces, four organizations representing different ethnic groups - the California Black Health Network, Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum, The California Rural Indian Health Board, Inc. and the Latino Coalition for a Healthy California - formed the California Pan-Ethnic Health Network (CPEHN). CPEHN's mandate is to respond to the need for a representative community-driven and community-responsive voice in health care reform efforts in California.
