Upcoming Legislative Briefing Highlights Multicultural Health Agenda

CPEHN’s legislative briefing, Cultivating Health Equity, is this Thursday in Sacramento! We are very excited to bring together our founding ethnic partner organizations – the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum, the California Black Health Network, the California Rural Indian Health Board, and the Latino Coalition for a Healthy California – to highlight the top policy priorities for improving the health and well-being of communities of color in California this year. We are also looking forward to engaging conversations and presentations from top advocates and leaders in the fight for health equity. Here are a few highlights and speakers joining us at the Capitol this Thursday:

Multicultural Health Policy Agenda
Our founding ethnic partners join us to highlight the top health policy priorities for communities of color.

Speakers include:

From Coverage to Care: Ensuring Equitable Implementation of the ACA
Panelists will provide an update on health care enrollment for communities of color at the close of Covered California’s second open enrollment period; efforts to infuse health equity in discussions regarding quality improvement initiatives; local strategies and best practices for providing care to California’s diverse communities; and the integration of the social determinants of health to promote health equity. 

Speakers include: 
Sonya Vasquez, Policy Director, Community Health Councils, Inc.
Michelle Doty Cabrera, SEIU California
Dong Suh, Associate Director, Asian Health Services

Healthy Minds, Health Bodies: Integrating Mental Health To Meet Diverse Community Needs
Panelists will discuss ongoing work to reduce mental health disparities to meet the needs of diverse communities, including an update on the California Reducing Disparities Project and trauma-informed care for boys and young men of color.

Sammy Nunez, Executive Director, Fathers and Families of San Joaquin

Equity in Climate Change 
Panelists will discuss the public health consequences of climate change, impacts on communities of color, local strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and co-benefits for communities of color.

Linda Rudolph, Co-Director of the Climate Change and Public Health Project, Public Health Institute
Martha Arguello, Executive Director, Physicians for Social Responsibility Los Angeles
