  • Asians in San Diego County live in communities where healthy food retailers represent 14.3% of all food vendors.
     
  • Latinos in San Diego County live in communities where healthy food retailers represent 14.7% of all food vendors.
     
  • Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders in San Diego County live in communities where healthy food retailers represent 10.8% of all food vendors, compared to 12.8% for Whites.

Definition: The modified retail food environment index (mRFEI) identifies the percentage of healthy food retailers (i.e. grocery stores) of all food vendors – including less healthy vendors such as fast food restaurants and convenience stores – within a census tract or half-mile of its boundary. The California statewide average for mRFEI is 12.2%.
