Across California, there’s a great network of advocates and health professionals working to promote equity and improve the health of the state’s communities of color. This network has led to a vibrant online community filling social media with great resources on a daily basis. Here are some of the highlights as part of our inaugural This Week in Equity Engagement on Twitter (or TWEET for short…sorry!) feature on Voices for Health Equity:

The California Budget & Policy Center had an analysis on the California budget special sessions that resumed in full force this week after a month-long summer recess.

California Food Policy Advocates is conducting a survey to help guide their policy work. If you have a minute, fill it out and help out a great organization working to improve access to healthy foods.

Kidsdata.org posted an article detailing the importance of culturally competent local services for rural Latino populations.

Physicians for Social Responsibility – Los Angeles found that Latinos are concerned about climate change and support state action to reduce pollution in their communities.

Here’s a great story about an aspiring doctor working to help other undocumented immigrants pursue careers in health care.

Feeding America posted a study that makes the connection between hunger and health care costs.

And Jennifer Herrera from the United Way posted an interesting study about how California is leading the way in terms of access to care for undocumented immigrants compared to other states. But as she notes, we still have more work to do to achieve #Health4All.

Those are just some of the health equity twitter highlights from this week. If you have other examples you’d like to share, please post them to the comments section or send them to me at ddexter@cpehn.org and I’ll be happy to share them.
