Health Equity Forum: New Staff Spotlight – September 2016

CPEHN Welcomes New Staff!

Over the last few months, CPEHN has added two new staff to help us expand our our policy presence in Sacramento and deepen our research and communications capacity. Help us welcome them to the team!

Kiran Savage-Sangwan joined CPEHN in July as the Health Integration Policy Director. In this new role, Kiran will lead the organization’s policy and advocacy efforts to promote the integration of physical, oral, mental, and behavioral health. Kiran will also develop and coordinate community engagement efforts that advance this agenda, and work with the Policy Team to promote health equity through quality improvement and health system integration.

Kiran comes to CPEHN from the National Alliance on Mental Illness of California, where she served as the Director of Legislation and Advocacy and worked with the organization’s 62 affiliates to advance mental health policy efforts. Prior to that position, Kiran was on the staff of the American Civil Union of Northern California where she focused on state and local advocacy campaigns related to immigrants’ rights.

Kiran graduated from New York University with both a BA and a MPA. She is a graduate of the Rockwood Fellowship for a New California. She is thrilled to join the CPEHN team, and is based in the Sacramento office.

Gabriel Stover came on board in June as the new Director of Research and Communications. Gabriel will be responsible for leading CPEHN’s efforts to disseminate timely information related to our policy and advocacy efforts across the organization. In addition, Gabriel will support our work related to research methods and data analyses.

As the previous Director of Research and Evaluation at Community Health Councils, Gabriel was responsible for leading two large scale project evaluations and providing technical skills for all community-based participatory research (CBPR) processes. She was also the feature editor for the American Journal of Public Health for 14 years. Gabriel is a third generation Californian and has worked in San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles using CBPR for social justice and health equity for the last 20 years.
